Girls Soccer: Canon-Mac prepared for tough sledding in Class AAA Section 5

Upper St. Clair leaves Section 5-AAA but former Class AAA power Moon joins the section after moving up after two years in Class AA. Canon-McMillan is ranked No. 5 in the Post-Gazette preseason Class AAA rankings but that is no guarantee of a playoff spot in the rough and tumble section.. They finished 13-4-3 last season and went 6-2-2 in Section 5-AAA to finish second behind Peters Township. Playoff spots should be at a premium in the section once again after Moon joins this season after moving up from Class AA.

"We have to face Peters Township and Moon in our section, there are no easy games for us," Canon-McMillan coach Dave Derrico said. "Peters, Moon and us are going to be slugging it out and you cannot take Chartiers-Valley lightly. I don't know where they fit this year but it is usually the four of us. It is always a dog fight in our section."

Incoming coach Bill Pfeifer of Moon is well aware of the challenge that awaits.

"I think Peters and Canon-McMillan are the teams to beat, they have been there," Pfeifer said. "We will be in a battle every night."
