Brentwood’s Jason Pilarski entered what could have been his final high school game Saturday just eight points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Pilarski not only reached the personal milestone, but he also helped Brentwood (13-9) stun Section 5 champion California (18-4), 56-50, in a WPIAL Class AA preliminary-round game at Peters Township.

Michael Kish led Brentwood with 20 points and Pilarski added 19.

Pilarski has scored 1,011 points in his career. He’s averaging a team-high 19.1 points per game.

Up next for Brentwood is a first-round game Wednesday against Shady Side Academy (9-14) at Woodland Hills. Shady Side Academy upset Section 1 co-champion Deer Lakes, 48-45, in the preliminary round.
