On Wednesday, the Cougars travel to Sharon for a game with Villa Maria of Erie, the District 10 runner-up. Villa Maria knocked off West Mifflin, the No. 3 team from the WPIAL, 42-35, in a first-round game at Penn Hills High School.
Blackhawk had a balanced effort in its victory over Mercyhurst Prep. Chassidy Omogrosso led the Cougars with 16 points. She converted eight of her 10 free-throw attempts. Halle Denman added 15 points, while Courtney Vannoy contributed 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Cougars showed their stifling defense as they held the Lakers scoreless while scoring all 11 of their points in the third quarter. Mercyhurst did score three points, but the burst gave the Cougars a comfortable 29-21 advantage.
