Blackhawk hockey team battling Harbor Creek for section supremacy

When Blackhawk and Harbor Creek meet Monday at 8 p.m. at Mercyhurst Rink, it very well could be for the lead in the Open Division’s Section 2.

Blackhawk is 9-1-0 heading into its game Friday against John Marshall (3-5-2). Harbor Creek, meanwhile, is 8-1-0 and will play Ambridge (4-4-1) tonight.

It is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. They will meet on Jan. 24 in Beaver County Ice Arena.

Harbor Creek has gotten fantastic goaltending from Tyler Manna this season. Manna is 8-1 with a 1.53 goals-against average and .935 save percentage. Harbor Creek has allowed the second-fewest amount of goals in the Open Division.

Offensively, Nick Rocco (17 points) and Hunter Emerson (11 goals) lead the way.

Blackhawk has allowed only eight fewer goals than Harbor Creek in one more game, while scoring 33 more goals.

Daren Braudis is fourth in the Open Division with 38 points (25 goals, 13 assists).  Kyle Schaefer and Joshua McCuean have 24 points, apiece.

Grant Rombold is 7-1 with a 2.73 goals-against average and .841 save percentage for the Cougars.
