Jake Dixon's years of competing as a multi-sport athlete at Bethel Park High School have come to an end. His collegiate volleyball career at Lewis College will begin in a couple months, but he already misses football and basketball.

"I was at the high school last week and saw the football team holding a conditioning workout," said Dixon, a four-year starter for the Black Hawks volleyball squad and a three-year starter for football and basketball teams. "I wanted to go out and join them, but my football and basketball careers are over. I have to concentrate on volleyball."

And that's just what Dixon will do before move-in day Aug. 23 at Lewis College.

"At the end of the month, I will be competing at Junior Nationals for the Pittsburgh Volleyball Club [June 28 to July 2]," said Dixon, who graduated over the weekend. "This will be my fourth trip to nationals with the club."

Lacrosse: Bethel Park ousts defending Division 2 girls champions

Written by Joe Koch on .

Breaking loose with a six-goal barrage in the second half, Bethel Park forged its way into the Division 2 girls semifinal with a 12-8 victory over host Shaler this past Thursday.

The win puts the Black Hawks against Mars in the 7:45 p.m. semifinal Thursday at North Allegheny. The loss ended a three-year Division 2 girls championship reign for the Titans.

Kayte Zeiler, a junior, led Bethel Park with four goals. Another junior, Zoe Zilcosky, added three goals. Delaney Lacey and Jenny Gavett had two goals apiece.

"The difference is that our midfield hustled with strong defensive play, and we had a balanced attack on offense. Our girls don't care who scores as long as we score," coach Becky Luzier said.
