Softball: 2017 West Season Recap

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Skyla Greco was a four-year starter for Ellwood City. The senior pitcher helped elevate the program to new heights. A Seton Hill recruit, Greco helped Ellwood City to a 19-1 record this year and was 60-12 in her career. She had 156 strikeouts and issued 35 walks in 114 innings with a 1.10 ERA. She led Ellwood City to back-to-back WPIAL titles, defeating Deer Lakes, 10-0, for the 3A title this season.

After winning the Class 5A Section 3 title outright, West Allegheny captured a WPIAL title and made a run all the way to the PIAA Class 5A finals. The Indians finished with a 23-2 overall record. They won the WPIAL title with a 12-2 win over Moon. Class 5A Section 3 may very well have been the best section in the WPIAL this season with West Allegheny and Moon meeting in the WPIAL final and West Allegheny having to get through Montour in the WPIAL semifinals to do so.
