Girls Cross Country: 2016 West Season Recap

In Class 3A, West Allegheny took 13th place at the WPIAL championships. Junior Maddie Salek finished in 21st place. Also finishing in the top 100 for West Allegheny was freshman Jessica Fatigati and Isabella Merlino.

Moon grabbed 15th place as a team. The Tigers had three runners finish in the top 100: sophomore Claire Daugherty (67th place), junior Victoria Michalenko (80th place) and junior Sara Benson (85th place).

Beaver Area took a silver medal in WPIAL Class 2A competition improving upon last year's third place. Sophomore Emily Brown led the rally in 13th place. Sophomore Rachel Quillin and junior Kelsey Jenkins grabbed 22nd and 23rd place, respectively. Seniors Sophia Albanese (42nd place) and Katia Kaffenes (45th place) both finished in the top 50. Beaver went on to place 18th at PIAAs. Brown took 30th.

Ambridge took the last spot on the WPIAL podium. Senior Mica Hanish started the rally for the Bridgers improving two spots from last year with a second-place finish. Her sister, sophomore Leuca Hanish crossed the line in 15th place. Senior Elyssa Penson was the last Bridgers runner to finish in the top 30 with a 28th place finish. Ambridge took 16th place at states. Mica Hanish went on to finish fourth, while Penson took 37th and Leuca grabbed 52nd place.

Hopewell took 11th place as a team while junior Lauren McCoy took 10th and junior Carinna Lapson finished in 16th place.

Our Lady of Sacred Heart finished in fifth place in WPIAL Class 1A competition. They had a star performance from Haley Hamilton. The freshman took 13th place at WPIALs before finishing 74th at states. Freshman Hannah Valenty finished in 28th place at WPIALs, while senior Tara Richardson grabbed 44th place. Senior Maria Lohmann grabbed 48th place, while sophomore Katherine Marks took 57th place.

Riverside took 15th place at a team. Senior Micaela Stover and sophomore Shannon Stover both finished in the top 100 with 49th and 58th place, respectively.
