Section 2-AAA girls' basketball qualifiers locked into place

Written by Joe Koch on .

Not only has Blackhawk High locked itself into the WPIAL Class AAA girls basketball playoffs, the section's three other representatives into the postseason also have been determined.

Heading into tonight's game at Central Valley, the Cougars have a spotless record of 10-0 against section rivals and are 19-0 against all competitors. Central Valley, Hopewell and Ambridge occupy the next three positions. The places could change, but the teams won't because fifth-place New Castle already has seven losses and the maximum number of defeats that could be sustained by fourth-place Ambridge would be six. And the Bridgers could move up if they win their last two games against Hopewell and West Allegheny.

Central Valley is two games behind Blackhawk at 8-2 and are 16-2 overall. In the first meeting between the two teams, Blackhawk earned a 62-46 victory over the Warriors on the Cougars' floor. Central Valley's other game this week is at Hopewell on Thursday night. Two losses this week would not deter the Warriors' playoff hopes, but the Warriors won the first game over Hopewell, 56-52.

Hopewell, is coming off an 84-33 victory over West Allegheny last Friday night. The Vikings visit Ambridge today before finishing section play at home on Thursday against Central Valley.

Expect big things out of these teams in the WPIAL Class AAA tournament.
