In recent years, the section matchups between Riverside and Beaver Falls have been thrillers and it looks like the current season is going to continue the tradition. Played at Beaver Falls Thursday night, Ayonna Vaughn tied the game for the home Tigers with a layup at the buzzer and then scored five points in overtime to lead Beaver Falls to a 51-45 overtime win.
Vaughn finished with 17 points and Tiffany Wright had 14 as the Tigers improved to 3-1 in Section 2-AA. Beaver Falls is just 5-6 overall, thanks to an exhibition schedule that included Blackhawk, Hopewell, and a three-game road trip to Orlando, Fla.
Riverside falls to 2-1 in section play and is 4-5 overall thanks to a tough exhibition schedule as well. Alex Deep led Riverside with 12 points against Beaver Falls but it’s likely the rematch on Jan. 28 at Riverside could be just as tight.
This week, Beaver Falls visits Shenango (6-4, 0-3) and hosts Neshannock (5-6, 2-2) while Riverside hosts Laurel (3-7, 1-2) and travels to Mohawk (7-4, 3-0) so the playoff picture is likely to remain crowded.
