Girls Soccer: South Park takes Belle Vernon off its game

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Some section games are bigger than others, in Class AA Section 4 no game is bigger than the meetings between South Park and Belle Vernon. The Leopards dominated the section years ago until the Eagles moved in and claimed the top spot right away. Last year the team's shared the section title with 10-1-1 records.

"Against South Park, we try to play our game," Belle Vernon coach Paul Sasko said. "The girls know it is a big game, they get amped up but we try to settle them down and play our game, just work the ball. We don't want to get too amped up about it but it is hard, it is a big game for us. They have a great program, they are coached very well."

South Park was successful in taking Belle Vernon off its game in the first meeting between the two teams with the Eagles winning 4-2 at Belle Vernon. The win shifted the standings in Section 4 with South Park (5-1-1, 4-0) alone in first place and Elizabeth Forward (6-2-1, 4-1) and Belle Vernon (5-2, 3-1) right behind.
