Girls Soccer: Serra, South Allegheny showdown looms large

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

For years Serra Catholic ruled the local rivalry with South Allegheny in Class A Section 2. That all changed last season when South Allegheny scored three goals in both meetings against the Eagles on their way to a 3-1 and 3-0 win. South Allegheny finished a perfect 12-0 in section play to capture the title. The two teams meet for the first time Monday night at 7 p.m. when South Allegheny hosts Serra.

"If I had to handicap right now, I would have to put us first," South Allegheny Jesse MacPherson said of the section. "We have seen everyone except Serra. I know Serra has been scoring a lot of goals and giving up a lot of goals. I don't know how that is going to play against us. We tend not to give up a lot of goals. We play it up, it is a big local rivalry, they have always had players from our community on their team. They were a school that always dominated and last year we came out on top."
