Baseball: South Game To Watch

Here are some games to keep an eye on this week in the South area.

(Records are through Sunday)

Wednesday – Canon-McMillan (5-2) at Bethel Park (13-2), 4 p.m.: Heading into the week, these teams, along with Mt. Lebanon, were tied for first place in Class AAAA Section 5 with 5-2 records. Canon-McMillan played Mt. Lebanon on Monday. Both teams are playing good ball. Bethel Park has won five games in a row, while Canon-McMillan has won four straight. Bethel Park won at Canon-McMillan, 17-4, on April 15.

Wednesday – South Fayette (7-7) at Keystone Oaks (10-3), 4:30 p.m.: Keystone Oaks put itself in position to possibly win the Class AAA Section 3 title when the Golden Eagles defeated Chartiers Valley, 1-0, last Friday. It was the fourth consecutive section triumph for Keystone Oaks. That streak began with a 3-1 victory at South Fayette. The Lions are fighting for a playoff spot. They helped their cause by beating Trinity and McGuffey last week.

Friday – Elizabeth Forward (11-4) at Thomas Jefferson (9-6), 4 p.m.: A matchup between two of the four teams battling for the remaining two playoff berths out of Class AAA Section 4 (South Park has already clinched a spot). Elizabeth Forward won the first meeting, 3-2, two weeks ago. The Warriors entered the week having won four of their past five section contests. Thomas Jefferson was 3-1 in its previous four section games.
