Here are some of the top games of the week.

Wednesday – Greensburg Salem (16-6) vs. Belle Vernon (15-6), site and time to be determined (Class AAA first round) – This sets up as an interesting matchup. No. 8 seed Greensburg Salem relies on an excellent backcourt led by sisters Jayne Oberdorf (17.2 ppg) and Claire Oberdorf (16.4 ppg). No. 9 Belle Vernon counters with a tall frontcourt led by another pair of sisters, Jessica Slagus (19.8 ppg) and Kaitlyn Slagus. The Oberdorfs combined to score 45 points in Greensburg Salem’s 63-53 home victory against Belle Vernon on Dec. 17. Greensburg Salem finished in second place in Section 3 and Belle Vernon placed second in Section 4. A season ago, both teams won preliminary-round games before losing in the first round.

Friday – Chartiers Valley (17-6) vs. Upper St. Clair (12-11), site and time to be determined (Class AAAA quarterfinals) – Will the third time be a charm for Upper St. Clair, which dropped a pair of games to Section 4 rival Chartiers Valley during the regular season? Chartiers Valley won by scores of 67-31 and 59-45. The second result was part of a seven-game losing slide by Upper St. Clair, which has since won four of its past five games. The No. 13 seed Panthers upset No. 4 Hempfield in the first round, 53-48. Rachel Mazzie led the Panthers with 14 points. No. 5 Chartiers Valley held off Shaler, 31-29, in the first round. Mariah Wells made two free throws with 19.5 seconds left to give the Colts the win. The Colts have the No. 2 scoring defense in Class AAAA (37.5 ppg).
