Written by Cara De Carlo on .

Both teams started off strong, but Peters Township’s puck handling exceeded Canon-McMillan’s. The end result was a 6-1 win for peters Township in the annual “Miners’ Cup” game. The teams were battling for the top spot in PIHL Section 1-AAA, and the Miners’ Cup is a historical reference to coal mining in Washington County.

Peters’ Sam Barnes got the scoring started midway through the first, and Adam Alavi continued it at 8:16 remaining. Canon-McMillan got on board late in the second with a power play goal from Garrett Woznichak (Shane Lisowski assist). The teams went to intermission with a 2-1 score, and it was still anybody’s game.

Peters’ Brad Tylenda made is 3-1 almost halfway through the third (assists from Recktenwald and Alex DeBolt). The Big Macs weren’t out of the game with a two-goal deficit, but Peters’ Jake Dachille made the deficit increase to three. With a 4-1 gap, Canon McMillan played hard but was unable to catch up. The Indians’ Carter Ekberg and Sam Barnes each buried one more goal before the game was over (Tylenda and Brady Cochrane assists).
