Had it been a year earlier, Marcus Mitchell would have made a trip to Hershey and competed in the PIAA Class 3A singles championships as the No. 3 finisher in the WPIAL.

Instead, the Allderdice junior had to settle for his medal and a job well done.

Mitchell lost a three-set heartbreaker to eventual champion Connor Bruce of Peters Township, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, in the WPIAL semifinals and moved into the third-place consolation match. But that match was never played as Moon's Logan D'Angelo was forced to withdraw, which gave the Dragons top player a third-place finish.

Obama Academy junior Rajan Alagar won the City League title, but ran into a buzzsaw in the first round of the state playoffs when he dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to District 2 champion Bailey Harris of Abington Heights.
