East boys’ basketball: 2013 WPIAL quarterfinal capsules

Time for an update on the basketball playoffs – here’s what’s gone on with boys’ teams from the East:

Class AAAA

Latrobe (12-11, 7-5) lost to New Castle in the first round, and Kiski Area (16-6, 9-3) lost to Gateway (16-5, 11-3). The Gators will play New Castle tomorrow.

Norwin (13-10, 8-4) lost to Upper St. Clair last weekend, and Central Catholic (16-6, 12-2) lost to Seneca Valley. Lastly, Hempfield (17-6, 9-3) exited the playoffs after a loss to Fox Chapel.

Class AAA

Yough (8-15, 5-7) lost to Kittaning in a Friday (Feb. 15) preliminary round game. Mount Pleasant (13-10, 8-4) didn’t make it past Knoch in the prelims, and East Allegheny (12-11, 6-6) didn’t make it past Ambridge. Next classification.

Class AA

Greensburg Central Catholic (22-1, 12-0) defeated Northgate in the first round; the Centurions tip off against Burrell (17-6, 8-2) tomorrow. The Buccanneers arrive at the matchup after defeating Beth Center and Washington.

Jeannette won in its first-round game against Aliquippa. The Jayhawks will play Apollo Ridge tomorrow.

Class A

Wilkinsburg (13-9, 8-2) defeated Carmichaels on Tuesday; the Tigers will play Lincoln Park tonight.
Trinity Christian (9-14, 5-5) lost to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart last Friday.
