Central Catholic, Norwin to match up in possible playoff preview

When Central Catholic and Norwin meet tonight at 7:45 at Center Ice Arena, it could be preview of a PIHL Class AAA Penguins Cup first-round matchup.

The Vikings (9-7-2) currently lead Section 4, while Norwin (10-8) is second in Section 3. Both have already clinched playoff spots and now are playing for seeding.

In terms of points, both are tied with State College for seventh place in Class AAA with 20 points. Shaler is two points behind with 18 points, but the Titans have played two less games than Central Catholic and Norwin.

So it’s quite possible that the Vikings and Knights could play in the 8-9 or 7-10 matchups in the playoffs.

The two squads met once already this season, with Norwin winning 6-3 on Dec. 3.

The Vikings couldn’t slow down Norwin’s top line of Dan Merz, Timmy Palmer and Dane Youhon. The trio each scored two goals in the win.
