Boys Basketball: WPIAL East playoff preview

Class AAAA

Norwin (13-9, 8-4) begins on the weekend (Saturday, February 16) with a first-round game versus Upper St. Clair. On the same day, Central Catholic (16-5, 12-2) will play Seneca Valley.

Latrobe (12-10, 8-4) will face top-seeded New Castle in the first round on Wednesday (February 20). That same day, Kiski Area (16-5, 9-3) will play Gateway (15-5, 11-3) in a Westmoreland/Allegheny county showdown. Hempfield (17-5, 9-3) will also break until Wednesday for a first-round game with Fox Chapel.

Class AAA

Mount Pleasant, (15-6, 10-2) in its first year under Coach Tony Splendor, will face Knoch in a preliminary round game on Friday, February 15. Similarly, Yough (8-14, 5-7) will face Kittanning on the same day.

Also in the preliminary round on Friday, East Allegheny (12-10, 6-6) will face Ambridge.

Class AA

Burrell (15-6, 8-2) will play Beth Center on Saturday, February 16 in the preliminary round.

Two-seed Greensburg Central Catholic (21-1, 12-0) awaits the winner of the Northgate/Brownsville game, to be played on Saturday (February 16).

Four-seed Jeannette (17-4, 10-2) will await the winner of the Avonworth/Aliquippa game. Both Jeannette and Greensburg Central Catholic will play their respective first-round games on Wednesday, February 20.

Class A

Trinity Christian (9-13, 5-5) will start on Friday in the first round with OLSH.
Wilkinsburg (12-9, 8-2) will begin with Carmichaels in the first round on Tuesday, February 19.
