Hempfield big man plays big role in victory against Kiski Area

Brad Everett recaps the game, Kiski Area versus Hempfield:

"Sitting courtside at Hempfield High School on Tuesday night was Spartans coach Jim Nesser's brother, Isaac, a former world weightlifting champion nicknamed "Dr. Size."

On the court, Hempfield's own big man -- dubbed "Big T" -- did the heavy lifting necessary for the Spartans to keep alive their push for a section title.

Tony Pilato, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound sophomore, scored a game-high 21 points in helping Hempfield end Kiski Area's 10-game winning streak with a 51-44 triumph in a Class AAAA Section 1 game.

The win allowed Hempfield (15-5, 8-3) to remain in contention for the section title. Kiski Area (15-5, 9-3) already clinched at least a share for the first time since 2001-02, but Hempfield can force a tie by winning Friday at Latrobe. It would be Hempfield's third section title in four years."
