"Obama Academy guard Dana Strothers hit clutch shots in the closing seconds of regulation and the first overtime to extend the City League championship game against three-time defending champion Allderdice.

Not to be outdone, the Dragons Jahi Ogbonna drained a runner in the lane with 1.5 seconds left in the second overtime to keep their hopes of winning a fourth consecutive title alive.

In the end, though, it wasn't a last-second shot that decided a title game that featured 19 lead changes and eight ties. It was the same shot over and over again.

Allderdice junior Tyler Williams made 5 of 6 free throws in the third overtime, including the back end of a two-shot foul with 19.8 seconds remaining as the Dragons hung on for a 71-70 victory at the Petersen Events Center for their fourth consecutive City League title."

"Obama Academy is not used to trailing a City League opponent at halftime, but the Eagles went to the locker room after an uncharacteristically sloppy two quarters Sunday at the Petersen Events Center trailing Allderdice by four points.

"Trailing at halftime, we told them that they need to relax and we have to take care of the ball," Obama Academy coach Monique McCoy said. "Turnovers killed us, and we didn't go in on them. We were very calm and told them the first half was over with."

Obama Academy didn't waste any time putting that half in the rear-view mirror, opening the third quarter with a 12-3 run to take the lead for good as the Eagles rolled to their fourth consecutive City League title with a 64-53 victory against the Dragons.

"This win for me means everything," Obama senior Taylor Stewart said. "Last year, we lost a lot of seniors, and there were a lot of people that thought we couldn't accomplish this and, as a senior, just watching us grow into the team that we grew into, it means a lot to me.""
