Softball: 2017 City League Recap

Written by Brad Everett on .

To say the three City League softball teams competing in the WPIAL did not fare well this season would be an understatement.

They struggled mightily.

And that might be an understatement, too.

Brashear, Allderdice and Carrick combined to go 1-37 this season, and the only win was Brashear's victory against Carrick. Neither of the three teams won a section game.

Brashear's Jiggz Cabral has been voted to the first team of the City League All-Star Team for the third straight year. Cabrel, a 5-9 senior outside hitter, was also an honorable mention selection as a freshman. Cabrel was also named City League MVP for the second straight year.

Four others were voted to the first team for a second straight year: Brashear's Mohammad Abdella, Allderdice's Elias Paolone, Brashear's Emmanuel Ndayisenga, and Allderdice's Gein Williamson.

Baseball: 2017 City League Recap

The Carrick baseball team won three section games and five games overall this season.

That might not sound like much, but the Raiders had the best spring of any of the four City League teams competing in the WPIAL.

It was a rough season for those four teams. Carrick was next-to-last in its section and Allderdice, Obama Academy and Brashear all finished last in their sections. The teams combined to go 13-51 overall and 5-43 in section play.

Carrick went 5-10 overall and 3-9 in Class 5A Section 2. In that same section, Brashear finished 2-15 overall and 0-12 in the section. Allderdice went 2-14 overall and 1-11 in Class 6A Section 3. Obama Academy finished 4-12 overall and 1-11 in Class 5A Section 1.
