Basketball: Former Schenley star signs with Lakers

DeAndre Kane went undrafted in last week's NBA Draft, but that doesn't mean his dreams of playing in the league are over.

Kane, the former Schenley star, has signed a summer league contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers will play in the Las Vegas Summer League, which begins July 11 and wraps up July 21. Some of the games will be televised on NBA TV, including the Lakers' opening game July 11 at noon against Toronto.

One of Kane's teammates will be No. 7 overall pick Julius Randle.

Kane, a 6-foot-4 point guard, had an exceptional senior season at Iowa State, averaging 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.

While those numbers likely drew the attention of NBA teams, Kane had one glaring drawback -- Age. He is 25 years old, which is uncommonly old for a player coming out of college.
