Boys Basketball: Allderdice/Obama showdown set for Tuesday

Written by Brad Everett on .

The battle between WPIAL powers New Castle and Hampton next Tuesday has garnered a lot of hype, but there's also a significant showdown in the City League that day that should not be overlooked.

City League No. 1 Obama (8-0) will host No. 2 Allderdice (6-1) in a much-anticipated game. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams who have stood out above the rest of the City League this winter.

Both teams played their City League opener today -- Obama at Carrick, and Allderdice against Brashear.

Obama (73.3 points per game) and Allderdice (70.3) boast the top two scoring offenses in the City League. Allderdice (48.1) is No. 2 in scoring defense and Obama is No. 3 (58.1).

It won't be the first big game for either team. Obama owns wins against Upper St. Clair, Franklin Regional and Central Valley. Allderdice has defeated Blackhawk, South Fayette and Peters Township (twice). The Dragons suffered their only loss at Fox Chapel, 78-69.
