Mica Hanish's specialty is distance running.

And while her races can be up to two miles long, the Ambridge standout made short work of her competition last Saturday.

Hanish breezed to titles in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Warrior Classic at Central Valley. A senior, Hanish won the 3,200 by one minute and the 1,600 by 18 seconds. She was named girls track MVP.

In the 1,600, Hanish finished with a time of 5:19.62. New Brighton's Alyssa Campbell (5:37.95) was second and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's Haley Hamilton (5:38.98) third.

Hanish rolled to an extremely lopsided victory in the 3,200. She finished in 11:04.29. Hamilton (12:04.44) was second and Hanish's sister, Leuca (12:26.82), was third. Leuca is a sophomore.

The older Hanish had a tremendous cross country season last fall, finishing second at the WPIAL Class 2A championships and eighth at the PIAA championships.
