Paige Phillips shined for the Allderdice track team this spring and was the only City League girl to qualify for the PIAA championships.
But when Phillips begins college this fall, she'll compete in a much different sport.
And she'll do it very far away from her North Side home.
Phillips will join the rowing team at Oregon State University as a walk-on.
Of course, Phillips isn't new to rowing. She has competed the last few years for a team sponsored by Three Rivers Rowing. That team, First Row, includes girls from Pittsburgh city and charter schools.
Phillips was the top track performer in the City League her senior season. She won four gold medals, placing first in the 200-meter dash, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and long jump.
At the PIAA championships, Phillips competed in the 100 hurdles, but did not advance out of her preliminary heat.
