LEWISBURG, Pa. – California University of Pennsylvania junior Julie Friend won the 10,000-meter run and broke the school record with a NCAA provisional time on Friday at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.
Friend won the 10,000 meters in the invite division with a time of 34 minutes, 42.44 seconds, which was over four seconds faster than the rest of the field. She shattered the previous school mark set by Erin Kling in 2013 by over two minutes.
Friend holds the fourth-fastest time in the 10,000 meters in NCAA Division II this season, as the top-three marks were also posted at the Mt. SAC Relays this week in California.
The Uniontown product posted an impressive time of 17:05 during the second half of the race on Friday, which would of been fast enough to break the school record in the 5,000-meter run as recently as last April.
