Mike White profiles the 2016-17 Post-Gazette co-Male Athletes of the Year, Franklin Regional wrestler Spencer Lee and Knoch track and field standout Jordan Geist.
"Spencer Lee is all of 5 feet 3 and 130 pounds. At 6-2, 250, Jordan Geist is like two Spencer Lees. Put Geist and Lee next to each other and it would be like a meeting of LeBron James and Kevin Hart.
But as different as they are physically, Geist and Lee are almost identical in their stature in high school sports. They were, in a word, gigantic.
With Geist in track and field and Lee in wrestling, they were without peers on the district level. But their talents also let them loom large nationally – and even on the world level, like few high school athletes ever from Western Pennsylvania. And what Geist and Lee also have in common is an ultimate goal of someday being an Olympian.
It is highly unusual for the WPIAL to have two individuals in the same graduating year who were so prominent nationally like this tandem. For their efforts, Geist and Lee are the Post-Gazette co-Male High School Athletes of the Year."
