Softball: 2017 Post-Gazette players of the year by class

Written by Ed Phillipps on .

Ed Phillipps profiles the Post-Gazette softball players of the year from each class.

"Most athletes set their goals at a nice, even number. Belle Vernon's ace softball pitcher Bailey Parshall isn't like most players, though.

After leading the WPIAL in strikeouts for a second consecutive season, Parshall has her sights set on sitting down 299 batters in 2018. Not 300, mind you, but 299.

"Just to be different," this Penn State recruit said.

Parshall certainly is one of a kind. She stood out among the competition and is the Post-Gazette Class 4A Softball Player of the Year after a tremendous junior campaign. She dominated on the field and her free-spirited personality rubbed off on the squad of Jaguars players who sang the classic rock hit "Don't Stop Believin'" on the bus ride to every game en route to a WPIAL title and a deep run into the PIAA playoffs."
