PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Morgan Ryan • Hempfield * Pitcher • Senior
In earning the Post-Gazette's top individual honor in WPIAL softball for a third year in a row, Ryan — a four-year starter and Notre Dame recruit — led Hempfield to an undefeated season and wins at the WPIAL Class 6A championship and PIAA Class 6A championship. Ryan was 22-0 with eight shutouts as a starter this season, finishing with a 1.00 ERA and limiting opponents to 20 earned runs. She tallied 199 strikeouts this year and went 73-6 in her Hempfield career. She helped the Spartans at the plate, as well, hitting .462 with 37 RBIs.

THE REST OF THE ALL-AREA SOFTBALL TEAM

Autumn Beasley * Hempfield * OF • Senior
Beasley hit .437 and was another Hempfield standout helping the Spartans to their 27-0 season and 5-3 win against Hazleton in the state championship. The left fielder had a .437 batting average with 7 home run and 26 RBIs while striking out just four times.

Madison Renner * West Greene * SS • Junior
Her .500 batting average and extra-base hits played a role in the Pioneers winning their first PIAA title and repeating as WPIAL Class 1A champs. She hit 58 doubles, 9 triples and 12 home runs and added 44 RBIs. Renner had a .534 OBP and 1.011 slugging percentage.

Rachel Martindale * North Allegheny * SS • Sophomore
She hit .442 with 11 doubles, 2 triples and 5 home runs and scored 35 runs. She drew 14 walks and only struck out four times, leading North Allegheny to the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals. Her arm strength and quick release makes the Pitt recruit tough on defense.

Lexi Wagner * Seton-LaSalle * SS • Junior
With 2 grand slams, 8 home runs, 1 triple and 9 doubles, Wagner's 32 RBIs are no surprise. She hit .467 in 60 at-bats and had no strikeouts. As a fielder, the Pitt recruit had 36 put-outs, 31 assists and contributed to seven double plays.

The four-year starter and Seton Hill recruit helped Ellwood City to a 19-1 record this year and was 60-12 in her career. She had 156 strikeouts and issued 35 walks in 114 innings with a 1.10 ERA. She led Belle Vernon to a 20-2 record and the PIAA quarterfinals, striking out 15 in a loss to eventual champion Mount Pleasant. The Penn State recruit amassed an 0.52 ERA and tossed three no-hitters, including a perfect game vs. Carrick. This is her third selection to the PG's all-area team.

Justine Dean * South Park * P • Senior
The three-year starter was 18-3 with a 1.80 ERA, surrendering 35 earned runs in 136 innings. She tallied 133 strikeouts and 41 walks, only allowing one home run. She is a Mercyhurst Northeast recruit and hit .487 with 38 RBIs, and led South Park to its first PIAA championship.
