This week's Athletes of the Week are Canon-McMillan baseball player Cameron Weston and West Allegheny softball player Mackenzie Partyka.
Recently: Weston had two doubles in a 5-4 victory against Bethel Park May 9 to help the Big Macs finish WPIAL Class 6A Section 5 play with a 12-0 record. It was Canon-McMillan's final regular-season game, and the team begins the WPIAL playoffs next week.
Check this out: Weston is one of the top sophomores in WPIAL baseball. A 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander with a fastball that sometimes reaches 90 mph, Weston is 5-0 with 41 strikeouts. He also plays right field and sometimes is the designated hitter. His batting average is .476 with 18 RBIs. Weston was mostly a relief pitcher as a freshman.
Mackenzie Partyka, West Allegheny
The past week: Entering the playoffs, Partyka leads West Allegheny in hitting at .613 with 35 RBIs, and has hit 14 doubles and three home runs this season.
Check this out: The Indians were undefeated until a 4-2 loss to Chartiers Valley May 9. West Allegheny, which lost in the WPIAL championship last year, led Class 5A Section 3 with an 11-1 record heading into the postseason.
