Keith Barnes covered Tuesday's PIHL Penguins Cup Championships.
"Indiana sophomore Madison Barker became the first female goaltender ever to start a PIHL Penguins Cup championship game when she skated into the crease Tuesday against Franklin Regional.
Now she'll have to wait at least one more year before she becomes the first to win a title.
Franklin Regional (20-1-0) sophomore Oldrich Virag scored two goals and an assist and senior Jamie Mauro chipped in four helpers, while sophomore netminder Daniel Soltesz made it stand up with 25 saves as the Panthers rolled over East Division rival Indiana (16-5-0), 6-1, to win their second consecutive Class1A crown.
"It was a great time out there and a great battle," Virag said. "This was a great win for our seniors and its' an unreal experience.""
