There are no perfect teams remaining in the WPIAL, but as the season enters February and athletes prepare for team and individual WPIAL championships, section title races are taking shape and there are three neck-and-neck battles. Butler and Hempfield in Section 3, Trinity and Woodland Hills in Section 2, and Waynesburg, West Greene and McGuffey in Section 1 are all tied atop their respective sections.
The three-way tie in Section 1 features McGuffey (7-4, 6-2), Waynesburg (9-3, 6-2) and West Greene (6-3, 6-2). The Section 2 race is a tie between Trinity (10-2, 7-1) and defending WPIAL team champion Woodland Hills (9-1, 7-1). And in Section 3, two other perennial powers, Butler (10-2, 7-1) and Hempfield (9-1, 7-1) are tied for the lead. Not only are there seven teams tied for their respective leads in their section, but Woodland Hills and Hempfield are also tied for the No. 1 ranking in the WPIAL that includes overall records with matching 90-percent winning percentages.
