Gymnastics: Hampton's championship no surprise this time

Written by Joe Koch on .

Joe Koch covered Saturday's WPIAL gymnastics championships.

"Hampton's gymnastics team might have surprised some people a year ago when the Talbots won their first WPIAL championship in the team's second season as a school-sanctioned sport. But when the Talbots repeated the feat again Saturday at Moon, it wasn't unexpected.

Still, for coach Kinsey Basko, it was a title not easily won.

"We definitely had a tough season, and [Saturday] we had one of our lower all-around scores," he said of the 144.250 points the Talbots registered to earn the team title.

Moon was a close second with 141.000 and North Allegheny was third at 139.425. First-year competitor West Allegheny was fourth with 135.025 and Baldwin was fifth in the 12-team field with 133.500."
