No. 5 South Park (15-3-2) vs. No. 8 Hopewell (14-4) - South Park and Hopewell both sprung upsets to reach the WPIAL Class AA semifinals on Monday. Some upsets are bigger than others and none in this WPIAL postseason was bigger than Hopewell stunning No. 1 Mars. The Planets had won three consecutive WPIAL Class AA titles since moving down to the classification three years. The Planets had never lost a WPIAL Class AA playoff game and were coming off a first-round bye. None of that mattered when the Hopewell's Chloe Work scored off a corner kick with 7:48 to play to break a 1-1 tie and knock off the Mars and in the process shakeup the WPIAL Class AA postseason field. The upset win put the Vikings back in the WPIAL semifinals for the first time since 2010. The WPIAL semifinals are nothing new to South Park. Last season was the first time since 2006 that the Eagles did not advance to the final four of the WPIAL. Since 2007 South Park has been to six semifinals, four WPIAL finals and has won two WPIAL titles. The Eagles will be making their latest WPIAL semifinal appearance thanks to holding off No. 4 Quaker Valley 3-2 on Wednesday night. Jenny Vietmeier scored in the second half to snap a 2-2 tie.
