West Mifflin girls fall in OT


Olivia Barkley scored two points in regulation, but stepped up for Elizabeth Forward in overtime.

Barkley scored five of the team's 10 points in the extra session to lead the Class AAA No. 5 Warriors (15-1, 7-0) to a 46-42 victory against West Mifflin (6-8, 5-2) in Section 4.

Dana Buck added four points in overtime for Elizabeth Forward and finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors led by seven entering the fourth quarter, but West Mifflin's Paige Flore finished off the Titans rally by hitting a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

Flore led West Mifflin with 15 points.

Other top girls games

• Katie Fischer scored 26 points to help host Ambridge (9-5, 4-3) upset Class AAA No. 3 Central Valley (14-2, 6-2), 64-53, in Section 2. Ambridge lost to the Warriors, 69-40, Dec. 17 at Central Valley.

• Megan Marecic scored 19 points, including two free throws with eight seconds remaining, to seal a 46-42 victory for Class AAAA No. 1 Bethel Park (14-1, 8-0) against host Canon-McMillan (6-9, 1-7) in Section 4.

• On the strength of six 3-pointers, Class AAAA No. 4 North Allegheny (13-2, 7-1) led by 12 points at halftime on its way to a 47-33 victory against visiting Oakland Catholic (6-9, 5-2) in Section 3. Taylor Brennan led the Tigers with 10 points.

• Mariah Ward scored 19 points to lead visiting Monessen (4-10) to an upset non-section victory against Class A No. 5 Avella (9-6), 52-49. Monessen has won four of its past six after starting the season 0-8.

• Riverview (9-7, 4-4) went on a 9-3 run in the final two minutes to beat visiting Jeannette (10-5, 7-1), 60-54, in Class AA Section 3. Bree Patsey and Sadie Buchser each scored 15 points for Riverview. Jeannette's Ciara Gregory led all scorers with 25 points.

• Monica Burns scored 20 points to help Hempfield (14-2, 9-0) stay perfect in Class AAAA Section 1 with a 50-42 victory against visiting Norwin (8-8, 6-3).

Stars of the night

• Lauren Wolosik scored 23 of her 36 points in the third quarter to lead Class A No. 3 North Catholic (10-6, 7-1) to a 59-35 victory against host Trinity Christian (2-11, 0-7) in Section 2.

• Deer Lakes' Danielle Kearns scored 10 points, recorded 11 steals and blocked 8 shots in a 44-27 victory for the Class AA No. 4 Lancers (12-2, 5-1) against visiting Ford City (8-6, 4-3) in Section 1.

• Audrey Stapleton scored 29 points to lead Indiana (10-5, 6-2) to a 48-26 win against host Mount Pleasant (7-9, 3-4) in Class AAA Section 3.

• Erin Waskowiak scored 25 points to lift Class AA No. 2 Bishop Canevin (14-2, 7-1) to a 65-39 victory against host Steel Valley (9-5, 4-3) in Section 4.

Hopewell star now second

• Senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of Class AAA No. 4 Hopewell (15-2, 6-2) became the second leading scorer in Beaver County history in the Vikings' 69-17 victory against Ellwood City (7-10, 1-7) in Section 2. Walker-Kimbrough scored 30 points, giving her 2,144 points for her career, to pass the 2,140 Kris Sebastian scored at Monaca. Walker-Kimbrough now trails only former Aliquippa star Carrie Bordas, who finished her career with 2,658 points.

Milestone

• Deer Lakes senior Rebecca Babincak scored 21 points in the Lancers win to give her 1,004 for her career.
