After a winless season, the young Aliquippa softball team is looking to get off on the right foot this season.
In his first-year at the helm Ray Pranksey oversaw a 0-15 campaign for the Quips, a program who has struggled on the softball field. But with one of the youngest rosters in the WPIAL, Pranksey is looking to build something at the school.
Of his top 12 players, five are freshmen and four are sophomores.
Senior shortstop Deshawnde West is expected to bat leadoff and start at shortstop. The junior starters are outfielder Jasmine Cobb and first baseman Aquaisa Wallace.
Sophomores, third baseman Ashlyn Kellam, outfielder Tiamarie Throckmorton, first baseman Brianna Baker and outfielder Ciara Clark are all expected to contribute. Freshmen, pitcher Donna Gilbert, second baseman Alexus Perry, catcher Shania Walker, outfielder Omnia Tucker and outfielder Jasmen Jackson will see time as well.
“We have two starters returning,” Pranskey said. “We will be looking to a lot of young players to contribute.”
